The State Government has announced it will build 50 studio apartments in Adelaide's CBD to support older women at risk of homelessness.
Managed by SA Housing Trust, the six-storey Tucker Street development will be staffed by a Community Wellbeing Manager who will assist tenants with any issues and connect them with the support services they need. There will also be five studio apartments designed for individuals with mobility needs.
The ground floor provides space for support services, storage, common areas and a courtyard for residents to enjoy. There will also be 59 bicycle spaces, one for each apartment and office, with additional space for visitors.
The trust is working with local communities and health organizations to provide affordable accommodation, with facilities such as meeting rooms, computer rooms for device-free tenants, free Wi-Fi, multipurpose spaces and communal gardens to promote wellbeing. We plan to provide services.
Minister for Seniors and Aging Wel Nat Cooke said: “This accommodation will provide safety, sanctuary and support to help older women start a life of safe housing and all the opportunities that come with it.” Ta.
“Ending homelessness is about more than just putting someone in a home. People need the right support to succeed and this accommodation will do just that.”
This location is close to major shopping areas, Rymill Park, and convenient to public transportation, including the free City Connector bus.
Construction is expected to begin this week, led by South Australian construction company Mossop Group, and the apartments are expected to be completed by 2026.
