MUSKEGON, MI — A cannabis hospitality business is coming to Muskegon next year. The new entertainment center will be called Fields Canary. The idea was inspired by wineries and breweries that include bars and restaurants.
“Our motto is to come here and stay as long as possible, rather than come here and try to leave right away,” said Edgar, Fields Canary co-founder and CEO. Ramon said.
Ramon said his new business is different from your average cannabis store.
“When you think of breweries, wineries and distilleries, Canary emulates them, but for the cannabis consumer,” Ramon said.
Ramon is turning the former Sons of Norway Hall in Muskegon into a cannabis entertainment center. The 11,000-square-foot building, located at 420 Harvey Street in Muskegon, will include a pharmacy, restaurant, bar and lounge for customers. There will also be live performances and a greenhouse to support cannabis cultivation.
“When we came to Muskegon and Michigan and looked at the cannabis industry, we decided we wanted to do something different, something unique, and something that we actually believe cannabis consumers deserve. We're not just a cannabis company. We like to think of ourselves as a hospitality company or a destination,” Ramon said.
The business was scheduled to open in the summer of 2023, but due to weather issues and reconstruction, Ramon hopes to have a grand opening in 2025 to coincide with Marijuana Day, April 20. Funding for Fields Canary came from loans and investors. Ramon said he can't wait to share his new cannabis experience with the community.
“We're really doing this for cannabis consumers because that's what they deserve. Again, I don't know of a better place to do this. And I've never found a better place than the city of Muskegon.''They're making a difference,'' Ramon said.
Ramon said customers must be 21 or older to enter the space.
