State authorities have seized thousands of illegal marijuana plants worth more than $2.3 million in a drug bust in Oakland, authorities announced Tuesday.
Authorities found 2,652 marijuana plants, 116.95 pounds of processed marijuana flower and multiple containers of illegal pesticides at an industrial building in Oakland's Coliseum District, according to the California Department of Cannabis Control. did.
One person was arrested on suspicion of cultivating marijuana without a license and possessing it for sale, operating a drug house and possessing unregistered pesticides, officials said. The suspect's name was not immediately released.
When authorities tested the illegal pesticide, it was found to contain isoprocarb, a substance that is toxic if inhaled or swallowed. Authorities also seized other unidentified liquids and illegal pesticides, including one labeled “Golden Eagle.”
DCC led the raid as part of Governor Gavin Newsom's Unified Cannabis Enforcement Task Force. The task force is a group created by Newsom in 2022 to strengthen marijuana enforcement coordination across the state.
“Illegal cannabis from outside safe, regulated markets facilitates the activities of criminal organizations that pose serious health risks and cause devastating environmental damage,” Newsom said in a statement. “We thank state and local enforcement agencies for working together to crack down on this illegal enterprise and protect both public safety and the environment from the harmful effects of the illegal cannabis market.”
