The license will go to the Nicholasville-based KCA Laboratory, which will be responsible for testing hemp and all medical cannabis products available to eligible patients.
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WEVV) — During today's Team Kentucky Update, Governor Andy Beshear announced that the state has issued Kentucky's first medical marijuana business license to KCA Labs.
KCA Labs, a hemp testing lab currently operating in Nicholasville, will become a safety compliance facility. They are responsible for testing all medical cannabis products before they reach cardholders in Kentucky.
The Kentucky Medical Cannabis Program received nearly 5,000 applications for medical cannabis business licenses. The state is working to process these applications as quickly as possible.
The Governor announced that the medical marijuana grower and processor license lottery will be held on October 28, 2024. Grower Tier I, II, III applicants and processor applicants will be notified the week before whether they are approved for the license lottery.
The lottery will be held by the Kentucky Lottery Company in Louisville and will be livestreamed for Kentuckians to watch and follow.
