Funny and goofy facts to entertain stoners on their favorite day

Written by Ken Magri

In honor of this year's Cannabis Holiday on April 20th, we thought it would be fun to publish some interesting trivia, weird facts, and famous quotes about this plant. So lighten up and enjoy reading.

4 more unofficial cannabis holidays outside of April 20th

Just about everyone knows the story of 420, when four Marin County high school students agreed to meet to smoke marijuana at 4:20 p.m. So we're celebrating four more unofficial cannabis holidays from Budbardisplays.com.

1. June 18th is Jack Herer's birthday

Jack Herer, founder of Help End Marijuana Prohibition (HEMP), was an important early proponent of legalization from the 1970s to the 1990s. He was an excellent grower and also had various cannabis strains named after him. In 2016, Leafly proposed recognizing Jack Herer's birthday as a memorial to all legalization supporters.

2. July 10th is Dub Day

Starting around 2011, stoners began using this day to commemorate cannabis concentrates. No one knows its exact origin, but the date July 10th, or 7/10, is spelled OIL when turned over.

3. August 8th is National CBD Day

Established in 2019 in North Carolina, this holiday celebrates cannabidol (CBD). Cannabidol has medical uses, but it typically contains less than 0.3% THC. Nevertheless, don't celebrate this holiday in Nebraska or South Dakota, where CBD is illegal, or in Idaho, where CBD must have 0.0% THC content.

4. Green Wednesday in November

In 2016, retailers launched Green Wednesday the day before Thanksgiving as a marketing gimmick similar to Black Friday. The suggestion to stock up on marijuana for the holidays worked. This day marks the second highest sales day for pharmacies after April 20th.

Thoughtful quotes about cannabis by celebrities

This listing comes from Mongolife.com, a Southern California cannabis clothing retailer website.

1. “Herbs are the healing of the nation; alcohol is the destruction.”

– Bob Marley

2. “I don't think marijuana is more dangerous than alcohol.”

– Barack Obama

3. “It really baffles me when I see marijuana being associated with crap like drugs and opiates. It's a thousand times better than whiskey, it's an assistant, it's a friend.”

– Louis Armstrong

4. “As an artist, I have a great talent for leaps and bounds, so when I want to clarify something, I smoke a joint.”

– lady gaga

5. “Stop killing each other. Let's smoke a blunt.”

-Tupac

cannabis phrases used in advertising

These marketing puns and phrases come from a list of mostly bad examples provided in 2022 by Dury & Company, a public relations agency in South Florida. These were created to “stimulate” cannabis sales. The best ones are:

1. The best buds

2. Cannabis

3. Remove weed from lips.

4. It's a joint effort.

5. We are the buds of a lifetime.

6. It's 420 somewhere.

7. Innovate.

8. I know my CBD.

9. When they go low, we go high.

10. I always thought cannabis was my best friend.

Important dates to remember in California cannabis history

1. 1890s: Mexicans had grown cannabis for rope earlier in the century, but Arabs, Armenians, and Turks in California were the first to grow it to make their own hashish.

2. 1970s: After a grower in Mexico's Sinaloa state invented high-potency sensemilla (seedless cannabis), California cannabis growers began growing it.

3. 1972: The first-ever attempt to legalize marijuana on the ballot is Proposition 19. It was rejected with only 33.5% of the votes cast.

4. 1976: Governor Jerry Brown signs the Moscone Act (introduced by state Sen. George Moscone, reducing possession of small amounts of marijuana from a felony to a misdemeanor).

5. 1992: Introducing a new political strategy that calls marijuana “medicine,” San Francisco voters legalize medical marijuana within city limits.

6. 1996: Proposition 215, the Compassionate Use Act of 1996, passed with 55.6% of the vote, legalizing medical marijuana throughout the state.

July 2010: Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signs SB1499, officially decriminalizing marijuana possession statewide.

8. 2016: The Proposition 16 ballot initiative, the Adult Use of Marijuana Act, received 57% of the vote and legalized recreational marijuana in California.

September 2017: At 6:57 a.m. on New Year's Day, Michael Lynch becomes the first person to purchase legal recreational marijuana at Golden Health and Wellness dispensary in Sacramento.

5 unusual cannabis laws still under consideration

Despite legalization, these laws attempt to address cannabis abuse or downplay its appeal to children, according to mgMagazine and thehealingclinics.com.

1. In Oklahoma, just possessing a multi-chamber grinder with a kief catch screen can lead to a felony charge of manufacturing hash. Converting cannabis into concentrates is a felony, punishable by two years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.

2. In Oregon, cannabis strains cannot have “candy” in their names.

3. In Arizona, only official medical marijuana users are allowed to have a list of dispensaries available to them.

4. Neon lighting is not allowed in cannabis dispensaries in Connecticut.

5. Cannabis products cannot be transported in California by air, ship, drone, rail, unmanned vehicle, or human-powered vehicle.

It's not legal yet! The following five states have the harshest penalties for marijuana.

1.Idaho. As explained in SN&R's 2019 “Our Own Private Idaho” (https://www.newsreview.com/sacramento/content/our-own-private-idaho/28583793/), there is a penalty for possession of marijuana. You could be sentenced to years in prison. In February 2024, Representative Bruce Skaug reintroduced House Bill 606, which would establish a minimum fine of $420 for possession of up to 3 ounces. And yes, Skaug said the “420” pun was intended.

2. Wyoming. Possession of more than 3 grams of marijuana (3-5 joints) is a felony, punishable by 5 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

3. South Dakota. More than 8 ounces is punishable by two years in prison and a $2,000 fine.

4. Utah. Possession of between 1 and 100 pounds is punishable by five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

5. Kansas. Possession of more than 13 ounces is a felony, punishable by a fine of up to $100,000 and imprisonment of up to 42 months.

From a bad marijuana state to a good state, on the border of Idaho and Nevada.

The 5 (actually 6) friendliest cannabis varieties say:

Compiled from several sources, this list covers cannabis legality, availability, quality, and how victims of the now-debunked “war on drugs” are getting into the cannabis business. based on whether social equity programs have been initiated to help.

1. California. It was the first state to legalize, has the best growing climate and the most dispensaries, some areas allow on-site consumption, and the largest cities have established social equity programs. .

2. Colorado. The Rocky Mountain state legalized adult use in 2012. Since then, the state's residents have embraced cannabis culture, cannabis tourism, and social equity programs.

3. Washington: With more dispensaries per capita than California, Washington has been able to increase the proportion of legal sales over unregulated cannabis sales. The company's social equity program began in 2020.

4. Oregon. As part of the original Emerald Triangle, southern Oregon is home to some of the world's best cannabis cultivation. Unlike California, dispensaries in Oregon don't have secure waiting rooms and you can just walk right in. Unfortunately, Oregon does not have a social equity program.

5. Illinois/Nevada (tie). Both states grow cannabis, and Nevada, with Planet 13 in Las Vegas, has one of the best dispensaries anywhere. Illinois has a social equity program, but Nevada does not.
