On Tuesday, when the new fees were due to be introduced, AT released a statement saying it was working with community and business representatives and elected officials to arrive at a suitable proposal that would not impact the vibrancy of the city centre. He said he had held dozens of discussions.
“Nothing will change on October 1st as we allow all feedback to be heard and considered. A decision will not be communicated until December 2024 at the earliest,” it said in a statement.

Mr Brown said he was pleased the public was given a fair opportunity to provide feedback before a decision was made.

One inner-city resident, Anil Ramnath, told the Herald in May that the changes could cost more than $11,000 a year.
At $2 an hour, he said, the St. Paul Street Apartments zone near Simmons Street would cost him $216 a week, or $11,232 a year. He said the figures do not include parking fees during peak hours.
From July 1st, new parking fees for Sundays and public holidays have started as planned.
Changes to Wynyard Quarter will be postponed until a defective footbridge is repaired.
Based on its parking strategy, AT prioritizes on-street parking management in the city center and eight metro centres.
According to the strategy, these areas will be subject to “increased parking fees and time-limited parking.”
