In an email shared with Benzinga, Jonathan Miller, General Counsel for the Roundtable, said, “The court will temporarily halt Governor Newsom's misguided efforts to destroy California's cannabis farmers, businesses, and product consumers.” We hope that this will be stopped and eventually permanently banned.” “The Governor has announced his commitment to abandon this punitive approach and consult with all stakeholders to create a robust regulatory regime that promotes health and safety and keeps hemp products out of the hands of minors. The time has come to tackle the mission properly.”
Newsom's ruling also includes a ban on the manufacture and sale of hemp-THC products for sale outside California. Experts say the wide scope threatens the nation's entire supply chain and raises concerns about state overreach and violations of interstate commerce laws.
Newsom's ban went into effect on Sept. 23, shortly after approval by the Office of Administrative Law.
The TRO hearing is scheduled for Thursday, October 10th at 9:30am PDT/12:30am EDT. Hemp Roundtable Regulatory Counsel Nolan Jackson will argue the motion on behalf of the plaintiffs.
