Chinatown Comedy Club opened with two sold-out launch parties held at the China-Australian History Museum in Cohen Place on July 3.
Some of Melbourne's best Asian comedians have joined the debut lineup.
Opening night host and Melbourne International Comedy Festival standout Harry June said he was “thrilled” that the comedians would be performing as part of the new event.
“Audiences can expect big laughs from the best Asian comedian in town, and maybe even catch the next big name in comedy before it becomes big,” Jun said.
While the CBD is no stranger to live comedy, the regular event aims to showcase Asian comedy talent each month in a variety of unique venues across Chinatown.
Melbourne Chinatown Business Association event leader Ngoc Le said the organization was thrilled with the success of the launch event.
“The support from the community and the City of Melbourne has been incredible,” Ms Lee said.
“We look forward to many more nights of laughter and community building.”
The launch night sold out quickly and was attended by City of Melbourne representatives, community leaders and supporters of the Chinatown community.
Food and drinks were provided thanks to sponsors St. Anne's Winery and restaurants EziStreet and Shanghai Village.
The club's August lineup will be announced soon.
