Craft Victoria is hosting the exhibition 'Material Language' from 28 September to 9 November, recognizing three outstanding craft-based practitioners: Joungmee Do, Nadège Desgenétez and Prue Venables.
This exhibition celebrates the artists' illustrious careers, keen material knowledge, and sheer dedication to their craft, honed through decades of practice.
Australia-based, world-renowned artists are experts and highly regarded in the fields of metalworking and jewellery, ceramics and glass, respectively.
Each artist has exhibited widely in Australia and internationally, all have won major awards, and are held in important public and private collections.
“Through decades of dedication to unique materials, the three artists featured in Material Language have each crafted their own unique stories,” said Victoria Nicole Darling, executive director of Craft. told CBD News.
This exhibition demonstrates our enduring commitment to highlighting women craft and design leaders and featuring outstanding and inspiring work.
Each artist has been recognized locally and internationally for their work, praised for their exceptional skill and creativity, and Ms. Darling believes their work blends traditional craft techniques with modern concepts. He said he is doing so.
“Clay, glass and metal are all considered humble materials, but in the hands of these three, they are elevated beyond their elemental simplicity,” she said.
“Their works inspire awe not only through their skill and technique, but also through their deep knowledge and relationship with their materials.”
The exhibition features key works from each artist's career, including recent works that celebrate their accomplishments while highlighting their artistic development.
Material Language is the first in a series of exhibitions in which Craft Victoria celebrates leaders and influencers in the fields of craft and design, with this exhibition in particular celebrating the outstanding achievements of female artists. You can

The Craft Victoria exhibition series, which celebrates mastercraft-based practitioners and artists, will continue until 2025.
'Material Language' will open at Watson Place Gallery from Saturday 28th September.
