Dr. Rand Paul introduces the Hemp Act to ease unnecessary restrictions on the hemp industry and provide transparency and certainty
WASHINGTON, DC – Recently, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) addressed Kentucky hemp farmers’ concerns about federal overreach and introduced regulation by introducing the Hemp Economic Mobilization Plan (HEMP) Act. We continued our efforts to bring clarity, transparency and certainty.
“For years, I have led the fight in Washington to restore one of Kentucky's most historically important crops by legalizing industrial hemp. Despite this victory, there is still work to be done to prevent the federal government from burdening farmers with unnecessary bureaucratic micromanagement. and help bring transparency to government regulation,” Dr. Paul said.
This legislation creates transparency and certainty by defining margins of error in hemp testing, providing a real solution to help Kentucky hemp farmers and processors.
The HEMP Act amends the definition of “hemp” from 0.3 percent THC to 1 percent THC. We also need to test hemp-derived products rather than the hemp flower or plant itself. Additionally, to prevent legal cannabis from being seized in transit, the bill requires cannabis shipments to be accompanied by one of two types of easily accessible documentation:
