The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on Monday announced the diversion of traffic from areas of the capital, including the central business district and Eagle Square.
The command's public relations officer, Police Chief Josephine Ade, said in a statement that this was a result of the large crowd expected during the Independence Day celebrations.
This comes as some Nigerians plan to use Eagle Square for protests.
The command also called on residents of the territory to be vigilant ahead of the celebrations and to report any suspicious activity.
He appealed to residents to report any suspicious activity in their surroundings using the command's emergency numbers 08032003913, 08028940883, 08061581938 and 07057337653.
Ade said the command had strategically deployed appropriate personnel and equipment across the FCT ahead of the celebration.
She said the deployment was to ensure the celebrations went off without a hitch, adding that the deployment included explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) personnel, riot control equipment and visibility security, among others.
