IUCN's main messages
Scientific and technical needs to support the implementation of the Framework, including its impact on the Convention's work program (Agenda Item 16)
IUCN urges Parties to leverage existing tools and guidance to support implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF), including the recently established regional and sub-regional technical and scientific cooperation support centres. do. It is important to avoid duplication of work and develop further guidance that addresses needs and gaps identified by Parties.
Marine and coastal biodiversity (agenda item 20)
IUCN welcomes efforts to ensure that the EBSA process continues based on the latest science, with the full participation of relevant experts and knowledge holders, and ) to assist in the adoption of the proposed format for explaining.
IUCN implements its existing work program on marine and coastal biodiversity and mobilizes resources to address gaps and areas that require additional focus to ensure proper implementation of the KMGBF targets, Highlights the need for further efforts to build capacity and transfer knowledge and technology; .
Specified alien species (Agenda 21)
IUCN welcomes the IPBES Thematic Assessment Report on Invasive Alien Species and its findings and emphasizes that managing biological invasions is realistic and achievable.
IUCN has published an assessment of the impact of all 3,500 known invasive alien species recognized by IPBES assessments on alien taxa to provide Parties with detailed information to assist with identification and prioritization. It is recommended that it be implemented and completed using the Environmental Impact Classification (EICAT). We also encourage Parties to utilize the resources developed in response to Decision 15/27, in particular the updated online toolkit on invasive alien species, to implement Target 6;
Biodiversity and health (Agenda 22)
IUCN welcomes the actions proposed in the Global Plan of Action and urges Parties to adopt it at COP16. IUCN further encourages Parties, other governments and all stakeholders to take action.
Biodiversity and climate change (Agenda 25)
IUCN believes that achieving the goals and objectives of the KMGBF requires taking decisive climate action measures, avoiding or minimizing the negative impacts of climate change responses on biodiversity, and ensuring that existing impacts on biodiversity due to climate change are and emphasizes the importance of considering the expected impacts. A framework for addressing the interrelated crises of climate change and biodiversity loss in a coherent and synergistic manner. We will not be able to fully achieve our climate goals unless the KMGBF goals and targets are fully met. Climate, biodiversity conservation, and indeed global health are all intricately interconnected.
