Memorial held by Melbourne's Jewish community
Across the CBD on Melbourne's Southbank, hundreds of people from Melbourne's Jewish community gathered as part of commemorative events to mark the anniversary of the October 7 attacks.

Palestinian speaker addresses crowd in Melbourne
Noura Mansour, an educator and political analyst with the Australian Palestine Advocacy Network, spoke to the crowd outside the State Library of Victoria.
She said it had been a “difficult 12 months” for the Palestinian community.
“We are now witnessing Israeli violence targeting our brothers, sisters, and families in Lebanon, with repercussions throughout the region,” she said.

Green and gold flag spotted at Sydney rally
A man holding the flag at a rally in Sydney told the ABC that the slogan “The boys in green and gold will win” was a reference to the Australian cricket team.
The green and gold flag appears to depict a masked man holding a weapon in a design that mimics the Hezbollah flag.
The flag was captioned, “Boys in green and gold join in.” (ABC News: Matt Brown)
Other green and gold flags were seen at the Sydney rally, but they are not the Hezbollah flag that appeared last week and led to a police investigation.

Union leader speaks at Melbourne protest
A number of people spoke at the protest event in Melbourne, including federal independent senator Lydia Thorpe and former CFMEU national secretary Christy Kane.
Mr Cain, who announced his retirement from the union earlier this year, criticized Prime Minister Antony Albanese at the event.
“I want to condemn the brutality of Albanon people, not only for Palestine, but for what they have done or attempted to do to the CFMEU,” he said.

Protest rallies have already been held on Saturday
Numerous demonstrations were held in various cities across the country on Saturday.
In Perth, about 300 people gathered in the city centre.

Demonstrators in Perth's Forest Place waved Palestinian and Lebanese flags and chanted for Palestinian freedom as they marched through the city accompanied by a small number of police.
This is the second such demonstration in Forrest in a week, with a similar crowd gathering last week to demand an end to the war in Gaza.

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan speaks about Melbourne protests
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Jacinta Allan said Victoria Police were ready to respond to any incidents at the planned protests.
“They are fully equipped with the tools, resources and authority necessary to respond to any instances that may threaten community safety,” she said.

She also criticized the timing of the event, scheduled for October 7 in Melbourne, as “highly inappropriate”.
Alan said: “It is very important to reiterate that October 7 is not a day to protest, nor is it a day to add to the deep sadness and trauma that many in our community are experiencing. ” he said.
“We have a right to peacefully protest, but with that right comes a responsibility to do so respectfully and to understand the grief and trauma that others in our community are experiencing. Masu.
“Today should be a day of understanding. We need to pause and make sure that conflict in the Middle East must not lead to conflict on the streets of Melbourne or Victoria.”
Allan said he supported the federal government's call for a ceasefire and wanted to avoid events that would “bring further hatred and grief” to the community.

Paper kites on display at Melbourne protest
Protesters placed thousands of small paper kites in front of the State Library of Victoria.
They say each one represents the life of a child killed in Gaza.

NSW Police urges peaceful events
Sydney police are warning people that displaying Hezbollah flags and portraits of Hassan Nasrallah could be a criminal offence.
Thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators are expected to march through the city centre.
