Police said more than 2,000 plants were found at the former factory site.
A man has been charged after cannabis with a street value of more than £1 million was discovered in a run-down pub in Nottinghamshire.
More than 2,000 plants in various stages of growth were discovered in several rooms at Town Mill on Bridge Street in Mansfield, police said on Friday.
A 28-year-old man has been charged with cultivating cannabis and is due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on October 22nd.
Police said that following the search, emergency work was carried out on the former cotton factory's electrical system to make the building safe.
Police said they had been suspicious of the former pub.
The Grade II listed building dates back to the mid-19th century when its water-powered mill produced flour for the town's bakeries.
It was later used for textile production and more recently as a pub.
Detective Inspector Kylie Davis, Mansfield District Commander, said: “We had reason to believe the premises was being used for unlawful purposes and these suspicions were confirmed when we entered.”
“This historic Grade II listed building is well known to generations of Mansfield residents and was at great risk from unlawful activity within.
“Not only are we pleased with the large amount of illegal drugs we recovered, but we're also pleased that we were able to protect this local attraction from further damage.”
