Melbourne's fashion elite will gather at Federation Square on October 23 for the Melbourne Conversations: Dopamine Dressers event. This event is a free public panel discussion that dares to challenge stereotypes of Melbourne's monochrome style.
As part of Melbourne Fashion Week (M/FW), this event explores how bold colors and textures can transform the way we express identity, culture and confidence through clothing.
Moderated by celebrity stylist Sally McKinnon, the panel includes fashion and beauty experts including Dr Adele Varcoe, Denny Francisco, Megan Hess and Nigel Stanislaus. Each brings a unique perspective to how fashion influences personal and cultural expression.
“Fashion is an expression of individuality,” McKinnon says.
Melbourne isn't tied to trends or high street fashion. What makes Melbourne fashion special and unique is the personality of the city's people.
The event will also spotlight Australian Indigenous fashion with Denny Francisco, founder of Indigenous clothing brand Ngali, showcasing the power of fashion to tell a story.
“Fashion is a powerful platform to share stories, reconnect with our country, and express pride in our indigenous cultures,” Francisco said.
Megan Hess's iconic fashion illustrations will be on display and the City of Melbourne's pop-up library will provide fashion resources. Light refreshments will be provided for participants.
The event, held at The Edge at Fed Square, is free, but registration is required through the What's On Melbourne website.
City of Melbourne CEO Alison Leighton described the event as an opportunity to “challenge boundaries and ideas” and celebrate the diversity of fashion in Melbourne.
