City of Meridian officials and community leaders cut the ribbon on Green Wellness Cannabis on South Front Stage Road to celebrate the new opening in town.
Green Wellness Cannabis, opened by owners George Reese, Wit Nguyen and Patrick Hilton, is a medical marijuana dispensary located near 16th Street South, across from the Cookout.
City Council President Romando Walker said he would like to thank the business owners who have chosen to invest in Meridian.
“Thank you for joining us here at Meridian to make Meridian even better,” she said. “Just because we're growing by leaps and bounds doesn't mean we're not growing. We really appreciate you bringing this to Meridian.”
Reese said the pharmacy has been open for about a week and is starting to see crowds. The current thrust is to expand the pharmacy's patient base and help patients find solutions to their problems, he said.
“Our main goal is to enroll as many patients as possible, build that market, and provide great, locally grown plant medicine in Mississippi. We're so happy that everyone is so supportive.” he said.
Nguyen said the owners are happy to be able to come to Meridian and provide pain relief for patients. She said she enjoys being able to help people by providing an alternative to opioids and other painkillers.
“It's a natural treatment for them because it replaces other types of drugs that can be addictive,” she says.
Matt Schanrock, director of Meridian Main Street, part of the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation, said everything EMBDC can do to support businesses is just a phone call away.
“Whether you're looking for new employees, a new location, etc., we're here to connect with you and help you grow your business,” he said.
