A new visual effects (VFX) academy is set to open in the city by February next year, expanding career opportunities for students and local residents looking to break into the growing media industry.
On October 1st, Victorian Creative Industries Minister Colin Brooks visited award-winning VFX company Framestore to announce the launch of GameChanger Academy.
This will be Australia's first animation, VFX and games tertiary education institution run by specialist provider CG Spectrum.
The actual location of GameChanger Academy will be announced in the coming months.
“We support our digital screen workforce to create some of our most beloved movies and games, drive local jobs and business, and keep our industry thriving for years to come.” Brooks he said.
The academy is supported by a $3.6 million State Government investment and will be delivered in partnership with VicScreen.
We offer world-leading training and guidance from local and international experts in our new studio space in the CBD. Undergraduate and postgraduate courses will also be available.
“GameChanger Academy will continue to produce a steady stream of job-ready graduates ready to join this exciting creative and technical workforce, as well as mid-career and It will also sharpen the skill sets of senior talent,” said BigScreen CEO Caroline Pitcher.
Funded by the Victorian Government, CG Spectrum will offer 10 full degree scholarships. Study options include animation, game design, VFX, digital art, and more.
Examples of courses on offer include the 12-week Good to Great immersive postgraduate certificate for those with industry experience, and the Elevate program to upskill those already working in the industry to advance their careers and leadership capabilities. and so on.
Student registration for GameChanger Academy will begin on October 14, 2024, with the first courses starting in February 2025. Other key dates will be announced later this year.
CG Spectrum co-founder Jeff Pepper said the academy is “a significant investment in the next generation of industry leaders, upskilling current screen professionals and training new, job-ready graduates.” ” he said.
