Anyone with information about missing or tampered connections is asked to contact NOFD at 504-658-4770.
NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Fire Department is plagued by what officials are calling an “epidemic” of thefts involving Fire Department Connection Complexes (FDCs) located in commercial buildings in and around the Central Business District and French Quarter. are.
According to NOFD, FDCs (like the one shown below) allow responders to connect to standpipes and sprinkler systems in high-rise buildings and other commercial structures.
NOFD said the missing connections were made of brass and likely sold for scrap and could “delay” crews from replenishing water pressure to the building in the event of a fire-related emergency. “It could be completely banned,” he said.
Officials are asking all commercial building managers and maintenance engineers to inspect their buildings' FDCs for missing caps and fittings.
If your FDC is lost or tampered with, please notify NOFD (504-658-4770) as soon as possible.
