Recreational marijuana sales in Ohio exceeded $76.2 million in less than two months.
According to the Ohio Department of Commerce's Cannabis Control Division, total recreational marijuana sales in the state were $76,280,490 as of Sept. 21. In Ohio, non-medical marijuana transactions are subject to a 10% tax at the point of sale.
Recreational marijuana sales began in Ohio on August 6th, with sales topping $11.5 million in less than a week. Last November, 57% of Ohioans voted to legalize marijuana with the passage of Issue 2, making it legal for Ohioans over the age of 21 to grow their own marijuana, with a limit of six plants per person and 12 plants per residence. It was getting worse.
To date, 8,813 pounds of plant material has been sold and 1,187,395 products have been sold, according to DCC.
According to the department, there are 124 dual-use marijuana dispensaries in Ohio that can sell both medical and non-medical marijuana. There are 13 dual-use cannabis dispensaries in Columbus, 10 in Cincinnati, six in Dayton, and five in Cleveland.
As of Monday, there were more than 107 local moratoriums in place banning adult-use cannabis businesses in Ohio, according to the Ohio State University Moritz School of Law.
