A drug driver from the Isle of Wight has had his licence revoked after police smelled cannabis in his work van.
Daniel Carpenter, of Downlands Crescent, Ventnor, appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Friday, September 20, where he pleaded guilty to drug driving.
Prosecutor Lauren McConnell said police had stopped another vehicle on Main Road, Rookley, at 11.20am on March 21 for having substandard number plates.
During the stop, officers smelled marijuana and determined it was coming from the van. Police caught up with the van and stopped it further down the road.
McConnell said Carpenter was in the driver's seat and there was also a passenger in the car.
A roadside drug wipe test came back positive for cannabis and further blood tests at Newport Police Station revealed the 38-year-old man had more than four times the legal limit.
Defence solicitor Oscar Vincent said his client last appeared in court 13 years ago and had been sober for 14 years.
Mr Vincent told the court Carpenter, a self-employed builder, accepted he used cannabis to dull the pain after suffering a “severe sports injury” at the age of 15, which became increasingly painful.
Magistrates banned Carpenter from driving for 12 months and fined him £120.
The carpenter must also pay £85 costs and a £48 surcharge.
