Five people were arrested in a police operation targeting counterfeit goods in the Durban CBD on Thursday morning.
Police seized luxury clothing brands worth more than R37 million and arrested five suspects, all foreign nationals.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netsiunda said a special task force dealing with contraband, counterfeit and illegal goods was selling counterfeit branded goods on Dr Pixley Kasemme Street in the Point area. He admitted that he collected information about the stores that were being sold.

“Police obtained search warrants for several stores that were raided on Thursday, which led to the recovery of counterfeit clothing, watches and other major brand products,” Colonel Nesiunda said.
In addition to the counterfeit goods, police also seized R200,000 in cash.
Colonel Nesiunda said the five suspects are currently in custody and will appear in court soon. Their status in the country is still being confirmed by authorities.
“Once processing is complete, the suspects will be brought to court,” he added.
