PARAGOULD, Ark. (KAIT) – With the number of small businesses on the rise, sometimes it's good to get some advice before you start.
The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center held one-on-one consultation sessions for people interested in starting a small business.
These sessions will be held in 10 different counties in the state and will visit each county at least every two months.
This was held on Tuesday 15th October at the new GIN building in Paragould.
“The center works with entrepreneurs and people who want to start a business,” said Laura Miller, director of the Small Business and Technology Development Center at Arkansas State University. “We do it primarily in three ways: one-on-one and consulting, that's one of the things we do now, and we do it every day.”
Miller added that they also do training events and have market research that they can share with clients.
When someone sets an appointment, the meeting covers many different types of things.
“A lot of people come here with the idea of starting a business,” Miller said. “So they come in and we work by appointment and just talk about the basics of starting a business, what options are there for financing, licenses and permits. ”
We'll also discuss your business plan, including whether you should be a sole proprietorship or an LLC.
Different types of people come to these lessons.
“Some people wake up in the morning and decide they want to start a business, and they come in completely unprepared. I once wrote a business plan on a napkin,” Miller said. “We have a staff that has been thinking about this for years. They have everything in place and are ready to start working on the process.”
