THC is the star of most of the cannabis industry, but for Bex Kolb it's not even the star.
Spokane Valley's Bath by Bex has been manufacturing and selling CBD-infused personal care products since 2017, with a focus on bringing users peace of mind in the comfort of their own bathroom. For Kolb, this work is based on his personal experience.
“Medical marijuana can cause anxiety for me. Unfortunately, I'm one of the people who can have an adverse (reaction) to THC,” Kolb says. “Though THC topicals are good, I find that CBD topicals last a little longer and are a little less painful.”
When Kolb started using CBD for pain relief in 2014, there was little room for CBD-focused products in the nascent cannabis industry. Kolb, who was a buddy tender at the time, was aware of the problem.
With few options available for purchase, Kolb decided to start making his own. What started out as a small, online-only retailer with a small selection now has dozens of products in store.
Despite expanding her inventory beyond bath bombs, Kolb still makes her products by hand.
“We currently have a variety of skin care products, and our bath bombs are also great for the skin because our balms have real, natural ingredients,” says Kolb.
Although painkillers were the driving force behind the business, Kolb has since embraced broader uses for CBD topicals.

Bath By Bex offers a wide range of CBD body care items, from soaps to balms.
“We create a dose that's perfect for grandma with arthritis and hip pain. If you're just feeling stressed, we'll create a dose for you,” Kolb says. “We also make bath bombs for kids that are safe to use, even for kids with severe anxiety or growing pains. Bath bombs really are for everyone.”
When asked how the sensation of CBD compares to THC, Kolb said it's a lack of sensation.
“It's more of a sense of security,” Kolb added.
CBD is touted as a panacea, but there is scientific research that validates some of the claims about this compound. It holds great promise as a treatment for problems such as anxiety, pain, and insomnia.
Or you can simply use it to enhance a relaxing bath during the nights, which get colder and longer by the day. ♦
