Tributes have been paid to a man who died in hospital after being assaulted in Melbourne's CBD.
Police say Seddon resident Andrew Truman was walking home on Elizabeth Street on Wednesday when he was punched in the head by a man.
The 44-year-old man suffered severe head injuries and was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

His brother Trevor said Andrew, also known as 'Chewie', was a 'feisty, independent and courageous man who was not afraid to be himself'.
“He was a wonderful and passionate supporter of the LGBTQIAP+ community and a proud gay man,” he said.
“He wasn't afraid to take the lead on the dance floor or at karaoke.
“May we all taste at least an ounce of his flavor.”
He was also a “passionate” supporter of the Western Bulldogs.
Wyndham All Abilities Football and Cricket Club, of which he was a life member, said it was a “very sad day”.

“His enthusiasm for football, especially the Western Bulldogs, was contagious and he was always ready for a friendly discussion,” Williamstown Seagulls FIDA FC said in a statement.
Before the attack, Truman would go to the Crocs Pub on Flinders Street every day to listen to a band and drink milk.
Homicide squad detectives are now appealing to the public for help finding Todd Menegald, who was seriously assaulted.
They are hoping someone will come forward with details of the suspect's whereabouts after detectives conducted an extensive search to find him over the past few days.

Menegald is described as being approximately 180cm to 185cm tall and of a thin build.
Police said the suspect, who also goes by the nickname “Rooster”, owns a black-and-white Staffordshire terrier.
He is known to frequent Melbourne's CBD, particularly around Elizabeth Street and Flinders Street stations, as well as the Mildura and Bendigo areas.

He was last seen wearing a purple zip-up hoodie, dark jeans and a yellow beanie hat.
