I truly believe that now is the time for responsible cannabis legalization, and I believe North Dakota has a unique opportunity to lead the way. On the surface, some might think this is just to make it easier for people to buy, but that perspective overlooks the broader implications of Measure 5. I highly recommend looking at this from a different perspective. Even if you don't spend, your “yes” vote may help someone you care about.
As a veteran, I have spent years managing chronic pain and cascading injuries with multiple layers of medications. Unfortunately, the more drugs I took, the more side effects I had. Over time, these side effects began to worsen and worsened my physical and mental health. After serving over seven years and being discharged from the hospital, I found myself relying on over-the-counter medications, which didn't really help and left me feeling drained. It wasn't until I quit smoking in 2018 and took my health seriously that I discovered cannabis as a healthier alternative.

Measure 5 would increase the number of dispensaries in the state and improve access to relief for patients dependent on cannabis. It also increases competition among manufacturers, which can lower prices and benefit those who rely on these products. Additionally, Measure 5 supports local businesses like Strive Life and Pure Dakota, giving them an opportunity to grow, create jobs, and contribute to the state's economy.
A “yes” vote doesn’t just support cannabis users. Supporting veterans like me, supporting local businesses, and creating economic opportunity for our communities. Whether you use cannabis or not, voting “yes” will give others the choice and access they need.
Vote Yes on Measure 5 for North Dakota's veterans, businesses, and future.
