National CBD Day is August 8th. Learn more about this holiday, why it's important, and how you can celebrate it with cbdMD.
With the warm summer weather comes the festive season. anniversary. Juneteenth. independence day. National CBD Day.
what's that? Never heard of National CBD Day? Have you been living under a rock?
Just kidding. August 8, 2022 will be the fifth commemoration of National CBD Day, so it's no wonder you've never heard of it. Five years ago, you probably had never heard of CBD, right?
So let’s take a closer look at the National CBD Day story. How it came into being, what it aims to achieve, and how we can all celebrate it.
First National CBD Day
PR issues surrounding the history of cannabis products and CBD are nothing new. This once-common crop, championed by hippies and dropouts, has become a potent symbol of the culture wars.
That's why it's been a little difficult for CBD, a harmless and non-addictive cannabis product, to gain much attention. So, back in 2018, we at cbdMD wanted to raise awareness of CBD among the general public. At the time, CBD was just starting to become a hot topic in states where it was allowed. However, cannabis products remained illegal at the federal level.
But the 2018 Farm Bill would change everything going on right now. In anticipation of that, we petitioned the good folks at National Day Calendar to name August 8th the first National CBD Day, and they agreed.
In December 2018, the Farm Bill was passed, making all hemp products federally legal. And then things exploded.
CBD is a big hit
Over the next year, CBD sales skyrocketed, totaling billions of dollars, and the once obscure cannabinoid suddenly became ubiquitous. As a result, National CBD Day 2019 became more than just the first holiday.
Cannabis news sites have picked up on this, and mainstream publications like Newsweek and Forbes have also joined the movement. Many of our fellow CBD vendors have used this attention to promote exclusive sales and discounts. CBD has even been recognized for its calming and sleep-promoting effects.
Therefore, it is no exaggeration to say that awareness of CBD has been increasing since the days of hippies. But that's not all.
Due to global events, 2020 has been a somewhat difficult year for the industry. Market researchers have given quite different estimates for total CBD sales, which is a risk in a highly fragmented industry with a significant number of gray market players, but in 2020 All agree that sales have increased, but at a slower rate than the initial pace set in 2019. .
The fact that people take CBD to calm their mind has made it popular in a year that has brought many new worries. But a surge in new entrants in 2019 drove prices down and the industry was ready for a shakeout. That’s why National CBD Day is more important than ever.
There's still much work to do
Many fly-by-night CBD companies have brought the industry into disrepute by making outrageous (and illegal) claims and selling substandard products.
Although most Americans have heard of CBD, that doesn't mean everything they've heard is true. There are still many myths on the internet that need to be corrected based on CBD facts. People still want to know how to buy high-quality, honestly sold CBD. That's why we've made CBD education one of the main goals of our website.
People still have many questions about how to use CBD, such as when to take it, how much to use, and what products are best for what purposes. And these days, especially all the delta-9 THC, it has increasingly positive effects when combined with CBD. This is another part of CBD education that we strive to fulfill.
Following our blog is a great way to learn all about CBD. Recent posts have answered burning questions such as “Is Delta 9 legal?” “Do people prefer Delta 8 or Delta 9?” “What's the difference between CBD gummies?” and the age-old “How to use CBD for beginners” tips for pets!

We also need more clarity on what we don't know yet, so we want to continue pursuing the causes. Although the 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp-derived CBD, regulations surrounding the production and sale of CBD remain incredibly confusing. We must continue to push federal and state agencies to streamline laws to improve safety and access.
Since the first National CBD Day, things have improved on the legal front, especially at the state level. Over the past few years, many states have begun to legalize CBD and/or cannabis in general. Unfortunately, the clear regulatory framework that various federal health agencies notified in 2019 has been slow to materialize.
But ultimately, government agencies like the Food and Drug Administration will not be able to respond to public pressure alone. We need scientific research to support the safety and benefits of CBD. That's another reason why we keep beating the drum. While much of the early research is exciting, larger and better studies are needed to maximize the benefits of CBD for everyone.
