VINTON — In the spring, the Iowa Legislature passed new laws regarding hemp products, directly impacting Windsor CBD, a small, family-owned business in Vinton. House File 2605 was passed by the Iowa House of Representatives on Tuesday, March 12th and signed by Governor Reynolds on May 17th. A recent injunction seeking a temporary injunction against the new law was denied last week. The law, which went into effect on July 1, 2024, tightens regulations on consumable hemp products. For Winsor CBD, this ban meant the removal of nearly all of its products except for its broad-spectrum CBD oil.
On Wednesday, Winsor CBD shared the following statement on its Facebook page:
“We are very saddened to hear that the injunction request for the new cannabis law has been denied. We sincerely thank all the businesses in Iowa who have tried to stand up for this industry. All that remains is Broad Spectrum CBD Oil (Zero THC), which is the only compliant product available for sale under Iowa's new regulations. Because of this, we primarily sell our products through our online store (winsorcbd.com). ) If you would like to meet us in-store, please call us at 319-214-3027 or send us a message. We would be happy to meet you. Masu.”
Ten companies joined together to file an injunction, the second such injunction since the law was enacted. The first injunction was filed by just two companies, but eight others joined them in filing a second injunction, arguing that the new law was discriminatory and vague. The judge denied the injunction because the Department of Public Health has released further guidance on the new law since the lawsuit was filed. However, there remains a pending lawsuit.
